Context

The aim of this workshop is to explore the steps needed in undertaking a literature search, whether you are undertaking an academic course, developing a PPPG or simply want to approach literature searching in a more systematic way. Topics covered will include developing a focused question, identifying appropriate sources to search and planning a search strategy.  It will also cover options for managing the results you find and recording the search process.

Who should attend

HSE staff and authorised users of the HSE Library Service who are undertaking a literature review as part of an academic course, developing a PPPG or who just want to search for literature in a more systematic way.

Why you should attend: 

  1. To learn how to develop a good research question
  2. To learn how to describe your question using a recognized template such as PICO or PEO
  3. To become familiar with the resources appropriate to your research question
  4. To learn methods for Identifying search terms for your literature search including keywords and subject headings
  5. To learn how to manage your search results
  6. To become familiar with ways of recording the search process
