Context
The aim of this workshop is to explore the steps needed in undertaking a literature search, whether you are undertaking an academic course, developing a PPPG or simply want to approach literature searching in a more systematic way. Topics covered will include developing a focused question, identifying appropriate sources to search and planning a search strategy. It will also cover options for managing the results you find and recording the search process.
Who should attend
HSE staff and authorised users of the HSE Library Service who are undertaking a literature review as part of an academic course, developing a PPPG or who just want to search for literature in a more systematic way.
Learning outcomes
- Develop a good research question
- Describe your question using a recognised template such as PICO or PEO
- Gain familiarity with the resources appropriate to your research question
- Identify effective methods for selecting search terms for a literature search including keywords and subject headings
- Organise, manage and document search results effectively for future reference and citation.
